About the Firm
Pitts and Brittian, P.C. focuses its practice on legal matters relating to intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and unfair competition. By focusing its field of practice, the firm is able to provide quality legal services in a complex area of the law at reasonable rates. The firm also concentrates on areas of the law tangential to that of intellectual property law. This enables the firm to service all intellectual property needs, including the procurement of patents, trademark registrations and copyright registrations, intellectual property portfolio management, intellectual property licensing, agreements pertaining to intellectual property, and dispute resolution, including litigation, to enforce clients’ intellectual property rights and defend clients against charges of infringement of intellectual property rights. When appropriate, the firm also coordinates with its clients’ general legal counsel to ensure that the management of its clients’ intellectual property matters is consistent with the clients’ overall business plan.
Firm History
The Pitts and Brittian law firm of today originated in 1977 when Bob Pitts began a solo practice after practicing for several years with a large Chicago-based patent law firm. In 1984, Mr. Pitts partnered with Brad Brittian, who had been practicing law in a litigation-based Knoxville firm, to establish Pitts and Brittian, P.C. As the firm’s clientele increased, the firm began to add attorneys. In 1989 Melinda Doss joined Mr. Pitts and Mr. Brittian. Ken Hoffmeister, now a partner, joined the firm in 1997. Currently, Pitts and Brittian, P.C. includes 11 attorneys and has provided quality legal services relating to intellectual property, both nationally and internationally, for over thirty years.
