Jeff is a shareholder of Pitts and Brittian,
P.C., and is a native of Tennessee, born in Memphis on December
30, 1963. While he lived most of his childhood in Memphis, he also
lived in Morganton, North Carolina and Thermopolis, Wyoming.
Jeff was admitted to practice in Tennessee in 1989, and in 1992
received his license to practice before the United States Patent
and Trademark Office. Jeff has also been admitted to practice
before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and the U.
S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
Jeff received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with
Honors from the University of Tennessee in 1986. While an
undergraduate, Jeff was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering
National Honor Society, the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering National
Honor Society, and the Golden Key National Honor Society.
Jeff received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of
Tennessee in 1989.
After completing his law degree and starting his practice in
patent law, Jeff returned to school to study electrical
engineering. While enrolled at the University of Tennessee, he was
inducted into the Eta Kappa Nu Association, Electrical Engineering
National Honor Society.
Jeff retains memberships in the Knoxville Bar Association, the
Tennessee Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the
Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association, and the American
Intellectual Property Law Association.
Concentration: Jeff's practice focuses primarily on the
preparation and prosecution of patent applications, including the
review and training of new associates in this area. The
disciplines in which Jeff is primarily focused include mechanical,
electrical, and structural. Along with these responsibilities,
Jeff is also involved with performing and analyzing patentability,
infringement and right-to-use searches in the U. S. Patent and
Trademark Office, and the preparation and prosecution of trademark
applications.
