Bob Pitts is a shareholder and a founder of the firm.
His practice focuses on dispute resolution of patent and trademark
matters. He is also active in counseling private and publicly held
companies and individuals in connection with patent and trademark
portfolios, and patent and trademark prosecution. He has been selected
as one of the best lawyers in Tennessee by Business Tennessee
magazine three times.
Mr. Pitts graduated from the University of Tennessee with a B.S.
degree (with honors) in Engineering Physics and a M.S. Degree a
year later in Electrical Engineering. He was enrolled in the Ph.D.
program in electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee
when he transferred to Law School and received a J.D. degree in
1974. Mr. Pitts is a member of Tau Beta Pi Honor Society in Engineering
and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1974. He is admitted to
practice before the United States District Court of the Eastern
and Middle Districts of Tennessee; the United States Court of Appeals
for the Federal Circuit; the United States Court of Appeals for
the Sixth Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court. He is a
member of numerous bar associations and serves on the Board of Advisors
for the UTK joint MBA/MS degree program. He is also a member of
the Tennessee Intellectual Property Law Association and served on
the Board of Governors from 1995-1997. He was licensed to practice
before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1974 and has been
active in the private practice of patent law since then.
